SVQ/NVQ – Wall and Floor Tiling (Level 2)
This qualification provides national recognition for individuals specialising in wall and floor tiling within the construction industry. It validates practical skills, occupational competence, and knowledge required to prepare surfaces and install tiles professionally in domestic and commercial settings.
Assessment is competence-based, carried out in the workplace, and requires candidates to compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating their achievement of all learning outcomes. Assessments are guided by a qualified assessor.
Mandatory Units
Candidates must complete all 5 mandatory units:
Conforming to general health, safety, and welfare in the workplace
Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
Moving, handling, and storing resources in the workplace
Preparing backgrounds for tiling in the workplace
Tiling wall and floor surfaces in the workplace
Optional Units
Candidates must complete one optional unit:
Laying sand and cement screeds in the workplace
Laying under-tile heating systems and tile systems in the workplace
Key Notes
Designed for candidates with some prior experience in construction or tiling.
Focuses on health & safety, surface preparation, and accurate tile installation.
Competence is demonstrated through a workplace portfolio.
Completion contributes towards a Blue CSCS card
