The Level 3 SVQ/NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing – Painting & Decorating is a nationally recognised qualification designed to validate the skills, knowledge, and competence of individuals working as painters and decorators in the construction industry.

This competence-based qualification requires candidates to demonstrate advanced proficiency in a range of painting and decorating tasks. Learners must compile a portfolio of evidence showing achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

Upon successful completion, candidates will be eligible to apply for the Gold CSCS Card, recognising their expertise as a qualified decorative finishing professional.

• Assessment: Observation of work-based tasks, portfolio of evidence, and professional discussion

• Certification: Level 3 SVQ/NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing – Painting & Decorating

• CSCS Card: Eligible for Gold CSCS Card upon successful completion

Pathways and Units

Mandatory Units – Complete all 7

1. Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area

2. Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships

3. Confirming the occupational method of work

4. Erecting and dismantling access/working platforms

5. Preparing surfaces for painting and/or decorating

6. Applying surface coatings by brush and roller

7. Conforming to general health, safety, and welfare in the workplace

• Producing and applying complex stencils

• Hanging wallcoverings to complex surfaces

• Applying metal leaf to surfaces

• Installing coving and decorative mouldings

• Applying coatings to produce textured finishes
