The Level 3 SVQ/NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing – Painting & Decorating is a nationally recognised qualification for individuals working as painters and decorators. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of skill, knowledge, and understanding within a specialist subject area.
As a competence-based qualification, candidates are required to exhibit an advanced level of proficiency as outlined in the units. Each candidate must compile a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit. Upon successful completion, candidates will be awarded the Level 3 SVQ/NVQ Diploma and be eligible to apply for the Gold CSCS Card, marking their expertise as a qualified worker in the painting and decorating occupation.
ASSESSMENT AND PATHWAYS:
Candidates must complete 7 Mandatory Units and may also choose to complete one of the optional units from group A and one optional unit from group B if desired.
Mandatory Units:
- Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area in the workplace
- Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
- Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace
- Erecting and dismantling access/working platforms in the workplace.
- Preparing surfaces for painting and/or decorating in the workplace.
- Applying surface coatings by brush and roller in the workplace
- Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
Optional Units Group A- Complete One unit
- Applying coatings by the airless spray method in the workplace.
- Applying coatings by the air spray method in the workplace.
Optional Units Group B- Complete One unit
- Producing and applying complex stencils in the workplace.
- Hanging wallcoverings to complex surfaces in the workplace.
- Hanging wallcoverings (specialised paper) in the workplace
- Producing comb textured finishes in the workplace
- Applying metal leaf to surfaces in the workplace.
- Installing coving and decorative mouldings in the workplace
- Applying coatings to produce textured finishes in the workplace
