SVQ/NVQ – Stonemasonry (Level 2)
This qualification provides national recognition for individuals specialising in stonemasonry within the construction sector. It is designed to validate practical competence and occupational knowledge in stonemasonry tasks, from cutting and shaping stone to installing and finishing stone structures.
Assessment is competence-based, carried out in the workplace, and requires candidates to compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating achievement of all learning outcomes. Assessments follow the ConstructionSkills’ Consolidated Assessment Strategy.
Pathways and Assessment
Candidates select a pathway based on their specialist area, completing the mandatory and optional units for that pathway:
Banker Masonry – Skills in traditional stonemasonry at the banker’s bench.
External Stone Fixing – Installation of stonework in external structures.
Internal Stone Fixing – Installation of stonework in internal structures.
Memorial Masonry – Construction and restoration of gravestones and memorials.
Stone Cutting – Shaping stone for specific construction or restoration purposes.
Stone Cladding – Installing stone cladding on walls or facades.
Heritage Mason – Specialist restoration and conservation of historic stonework.
Each pathway has tailored mandatory and optional units to ensure candidates gain the specific skills required for their area of expertise.
