The aim of the Level 2 SVQ/NVQ Diploma in Stonemasonry is to recognise the knowledge, skills, and competence of individuals working in this specialised area of the construction industry. This qualification acknowledges the expertise demonstrated by individuals in the workplace.

This qualification is competence-based, meaning candidates must demonstrate the level of competence outlined in the units. Assessment involves measuring a candidate’s skills, knowledge, and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.

The qualifications must be assessed in a work environment and follow the ConstructionSkills’ Consolidated Assessment Strategy for Construction and the Built Environment. They must be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor.

Each candidate is required to compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

  • Pathway 2 – External Stone Fixing
  • Pathway 3 – Internal Stone Fixing
  • Pathway 4 – Memorial Masonry
  • Pathway 5 – Stone Cutting
  • Pathway 6 – Stone Cladding
  • Pathway 7 – Heritage Mason

Based on the pathway that candidates choose, they must complete different mandatory and optional units specific to that pathway. Each pathway has tailored units to ensure candidates gain the relevant skills and knowledge for their chosen area of expertise within the construction industry.
