Level 4 SVQ/NVQ in Construction Site Supervision
The Level 4 SVQ/NVQ in Construction Site Supervision is an advanced qualification designed for individuals in, or aiming for, senior supervisory roles within the construction industry. This qualification is essential for obtaining the Gold CSCS Card, which demonstrates a higher level of competency for experienced site supervisors and managers.
The course focuses on developing the skills and knowledge required to manage and oversee all aspects of construction projects, including health and safety, quality control, resource management, and effective communication with teams and clients. It is ideal for those who already have substantial experience in supervising construction activities and are seeking to formalise their expertise through a recognised qualification.
Candidates will be assessed on their ability to manage teams, solve complex problems, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to the required standards. The qualification is tailored for individuals working at a senior level in the construction industry, with a focus on leadership, management, and advanced site supervision techniques.
To attain the qualification, candidates must complete 15 units in total, which are made up of:
Mandatory Units – Complete ALL Units:
- Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
- Implementing, maintaining, and reviewing systems for health, safety, welfare, wellbeing, and environmental protection in the workplace
- Assessing and agreeing work methods for carrying out site operations in the workplace
- Planning work activities and resources to meet project requirements in the workplace
- Coordinating control in the workplace
- Controlling work progress against agreed programmes in the workplace
- Allocating and monitoring the use of plant, equipment, or machinery in the workplace
- Implementing communication systems for the projects in the workplace
- Controlling work against agreed quality standards in the workplace
- Contributing to the control of work quantities and costs in the workplace
- Maintaining supplies of materials to meet project requirements in the workplace
- Maintaining the dimensional accuracy of work in the workplace
- Coordinating preparation for site operations in the workplace
- Supervising the installation, maintenance, monitoring, and removal of temporary works in the workplace
Optional Units – One unit required:
- Supervising the pre-installation planning for retrofit in the workplace
- Supervising the installation, commissioning, and handover of retrofit works in the workplace
- Allocating work and monitoring people’s performance in the workplace
- Enabling learning opportunities in the workplace
- Contributing to the identification of a work team in the workplace
- Supervising activities related to traditional and heritage buildings and structures in the workplace
- Managing your personal development in the workplace
To complete the qualification, candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the industry. Assessment will be carried out on a construction site or a related area.
During the assessment process, you will be required, with the help of your assessor, to take photos and videos of your work on site. You will also complete a set of knowledge tests, which can be answered directly or discussed with your assessor. Additionally, a witness testimony from your site manager or supervisor will be required, and we will provide you with the appropriate documentation.
Candidates will need to gather copies of site documents such as RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), Toolbox Talks, and any other relevant materials.
This qualification can typically be completed in 4 weeks, provided you work closely with your assessor and gather the necessary evidence. Once completed, you will receive your SVQ/NVQ Diploma, which is approved by CITB. Combined with a valid Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) test, you will be eligible to obtain your CSCS Gold Card.
